Accommodating students with disabilities in field practicum: Challenges and strategies

I was pleased to be part of a team of social work educators from around the United States who will be presenting “Accommodating Students with Disabilities in Field Practicum: Challenges and Strategies” at the Council on Social Work Education Annual Program Meeting in 2011.  This presentation will address both the legal frameworks that Schools of Social Work must consider in supporting students during the placement process (Federal law, case law) and will also present cases related to both students with visible and invisible disabilities for discussion.

Case law of interest:
Klene v. Indiana University, 2011 (specific to a School of Social Work)
Hartnett v. Fielding Graduate Institute, 2006
Amir v. Saint Louis University, 1999
If you are attending the Council on Social Work Education’s Annual Program Meeting – please come hear our talk at 8 a.m., Friday, October 27, 2011, check conference booklet at website for location information.
I, for one, want to see more social workers with disabilities in our workforce!
